Be Different Babe - My 7 Favorite Finds Featuring Parrots

When it pertains to fashion we all have our own ideas about what works best for us. For most of us it has taken years for us to develop our own highly personal fashion sense, and we usually had to suffer through some painful and embarrassing fashion moments to figure it all out. Luckily each and every one of us has a beautifully unique and different perspective when it comes to fashion and I applaud anyone who can stand in their truth and who can disregard the many outside forces that will try to pressure you to conform to their ideals and standards. " I think there is beauty in everything. What normal people perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it." - Alexander McQueen. I love this quote from the late designer because it totally sums up how I feel about fashion and to be honest it is basically how I walk through life. Even on my most melancholy days I always can see the beauty in things people discard, view as irregular or imperfect, or just the simple…

Funky Fresh Fun

Okay take a deep breath .... I know this outfit will be very polarizing, but I don't really care about the varied reactions I will receive about this look because it was styled just for the hell of it. Are you still scratching your head trying to figure out what is going on here? Okay let me break it down for you. Some times I get in the mood to style something totally fun, festive and outside of the norm. It is basically a fantasy look that only a few fearless souls would be brave enough to wear, but in order to keep my creative juices flowing I have to be able to throw a few crazy outfits in the mix to shake things up a bit otherwise I would be bored out of my mind. At the end of the day even I get tired of seeing everyone wearing the same must have items geared towards the masses or seeing people rocking the same muted palette over and over again. So occasionally I need an outfit that is cheerful and exciting to keep me interested. If your a fan of street style blogs this outfi…

Pattern Mixing - Ted Baker Culottes

I am all for pattern mixing as long as the scales of the prints complement each other well. For me there are no particular rules that I follow when mixing prints. I do tend to not mix the same type of prints together for example a floral print paired with another floral print. I like to give the eye a break and keep the patterns flowing nicely and when you use the same type of patterns or prints it can be too much of a good thing. Overall I think the key to achieving a mixed print outfit that is pleasing to the eye is making sure that all of the prints are in the same color family that way you do not end up looking like a fashion mishap.

Summer Brights - The Swimsuit Edition

Okay I have to let you guys in on a little secret ... I have been obsessed with the brand Andrea Iyamah for the last couple of years. The designer Dumebi Iyamah is known mostly for her iconic swimsuits inspired by African culture and bold vivid colors. Recently the brand has expanded their line to include ready-to-wear and custom made special event dresses. Today's set is featuring one of her sexy swimsuits that is perfect to rock during this hot and humid heat wave. Obviously this look is not for the faint of heart and you most definitely have to be comfortable with who you are to showcase your body in this little stunner. I loved everything about it from the cut outs to the vibrant print and the wonderfully intense colors. Since the swimsuit grabs enough attention on it's own I paired it with only a couple of essentials: cool mirrored sunglasses and comfortable flatform wedge sandals.

Street Style Chic - How I Would Style A White T-Shirt

If you have been a long time reader of my blog you may have noticed I hardly feature white clothing. Why? Basically because I am a klutz and I can never keep anything clean. Somehow I always manage to spill something on myself. The last time I bought a piece of clothing that was white I was in high school and I owned some white shorts and I ruined them because I was clueless. I used to let them soak in pure bleach to keep them clean. To make a long story short they ended up disintegrating right in front of my eyes. I must have been traumatized by the event because I never tried to purchase anything in that shade again, but with the temperatures being so hot in the Midwest this weekend (95-100 degrees) I'm starting to regret not having anything white in my closet. I'm actually looking at other women in envy floating around like little angels staying perfectly cool in the hue. How the f*ck do they manage to stay so clean and pristine when rocking such an unforgiving color? After…

Graphic Art - Mary Katrantzou Anemone Dress

Today's outfit of the day was inspired by the fabulously futuristic beauty look created by makeup artist Carolina Dali. Even though this makeup look may be too bold to rock for most people it did serve as inspiration while I was styling today's set around this beautifully bold floral abstract print dress by Mary Katrantzou otherwise known as the Queen of Prints. This dress is a must-have for any style-aficionado who appreciates an eye catching and unique statement piece. When paired with strappy sandals that walk a fine line between art and fuction, a minimalist clutch in a smooth and sexy velvet, and hoop earring that blends pop art and abstract influences you end up with a refreshingly modern and cool outfit.

Pastel Blooms - Romantic in Nature

The trend of the summer is an off the shoulder top or dress. I have always found this trend to be very sexy and romantic. It always reminds me of the bodacious bombshells of the fifties - Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Dandridge and Gina Lollobrigida. So when I spotted this pretty floral print off the shoulder crop top by Miss Selfridge it took me back to another time and place in fashion history. It inspired me to style a look for the modern bombshell with a casual twist.
Have you had a chance to try out the off the shoulder trend yet, and if yes how did you rock it?

Rocking Your Natural Hair Is The Best Way To Win The Fight Against Humidity

Today's post is going to be a quick one. The summer sun is at its full peak and the sweltering humidity here in the Midwest will wreak havoc on your hair. My natural hair is a hybrid between curly and wavy, not quite one or the other. So it makes it easy for me to rock it straight or to play up my natural texture with twist outs or with curl rods, and when the humidity is unbearable it is easier to forgo damaging heat. Plus I'm a firm believer that my hair looks best in it's natural state and I love how my natural hair absorbs the moisture from the air and because of that my hair gets bigger and fuller throughout the day otherwise known as natural volume. I am one of those women who loves big hair so the humidity works in my favor when I'm rocking my natural hair and I don't mind the shrinkage either.

I washed my hair with organic all natural apple cider vinegar and deep conditioned with SheaMoisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Hair Masque. After rin…
